CR Techs 9X1 Oil Service Directive (Type MA1 Engine)
1) Warm up engine to operating temperature (>160°f). Attention: Hot oil can scald.
2) Drain engine oil for a minimum (at Least) of 30 minutes. Perform either a vehicle Safety Inspection and or Complete Check Over. If 5k service, perform a Controller Interrogation while engine oil is draining.
3) It is usually good practice to measure the amount of engine oil drained from the engine just to confirm the current oil fill level, but please note; this isn’t indicative of the correct amount of engine oil filling capacity. Confirm proper oil fill amount at Porsche PIWIS TSI Online.
4) Replace engine oil filter, factory genuine oil filter element preferred.
NOTE: (If clients’ estimate allows, inspect engine oil filter for the presence of Plastic, Rubber and or Metal debris – Check metal with magnet to see if debris ferrous).
LEGEND: –Hard Black Material/debris represents carbon or black chain rail material.
–Soft Black Material/debris represents Sealant or IMS seal material.
-Hard Brown Material/debris represents brown chain rail material.
-Non-ferrous Metals/debris (copper, brass & bronze) usually bearing and valve guide material.
–Ferrous Material/steel usually represents Camshaft, lifter, cylinder walls and other.
5) Refill engine with 6 quarts of oil (7 Quarts if the oil pan sump plate has been removed).
6) Start engine. Immediately inspect for any substantial oil leaks.
7) Test drive car. Monitor for any instrument cluster warnings.
8) When returning to the workshop, monitor engine oil temperature with the factory PIWIS-2 tester. When the engine oil reaches 90°C, perform an engine “Oil Filling Process” and adjust the final engine oil level as necessary. Consult with Porsche PIWIS- TSI online for the proper oil fill percentage level.
PLEASE NOTE: It is imperative that the engine oil does not get overfilled. As little as .25 of a quart will set an overfill warning.
*Most street 9X1’s should be around 175% and most track 9X1’s should be around 170%
9) Reset engine oil service maintenance system light with PIWIS 1-3 tester.
